I don't mean like announcing it in-front of everyone or his friends or anything, just hanging out and stuff like that... what should I do if he is embarrassed to be seen with me?

what makes you feel that he will be embarressed to be seen with you? I think that this might be your own insecurities, or has his behaviour made you feel like he doesnt want to hang out with you or be seen with you?
If he has told you he likes you then this is a pretty good sign that he is not going to be embarressed, so really try not and worry until the time comes and you have a reason to worry. If he asks you out then thats great just take things as it comes.
