writes: I need to get some answers regarding rent payment in an apartment. My 2 roomates and I live in an apartment in orange county, ca. We are moving out on september 26th because we bought a home. yay!!! The thing is, our leasing office is horrible. They have screwed us so many times. We have always been responsible occupants but its like the leasing office just wants to make our lives hell. Anyways my question is, since we already have bought a home and we have the date set to move out. What happends if we dont pay rent for the month of september? We are not worried about being evicted because we already have a place to live, but will it affect our credit score? I mean what is everything that happends if a person doesnt pay rent for an apartment in california. Thanks a lot for all the info. Reply to this Question Share |

They may ding your credit, but usually it is too much for them to do this if you only have one month left on your lease. Plus, you already got your house, so what's the big thing about your credit? When I lived in California, I was very careful, after getting screwed the first time when I moved out of an apartment. I used only the carpet cleaning service the leasing company used (I asked them for the carpet cleaning phone number that they use). I had it cleaned the day before I left. I took pictures of everything, AND I MEAN EVERYTHING, in duplicate, and presented that on my walk out inspection. My cleaning was above reproach. I started cleaning at least a week before I left. Stuff that was on my move in checklist that was messed up I fixed if I could. I had before pictures as well as after. The company that screwed me even dinged me $50 for a small spider web in a closet. Therefore, the second time, I was absolutely perfect.I was prepared to take the second guys to small claims court if I had to.

Yes it will go against your credit score. They will also take you to court and sue you for the september rent. Its stupid that is the law in california.

Yes it could have implications on your score and its not worth the hassle. Ive been brought up to be honest so my answer is pay the rent whether or not they have been horrible to you as what goes around comes around and you dont want this to ever come back and haunt you x
