He loves who you are as a person, but unfortunately who you are is not who he's IN LOVE with. Kinda confusing, but it happens all the time. People fall out of love and realize they still care for the person but just doesn't love them

Hi, My thought is that if a person loves you, they care about you, what happens to you, want you to be well and healthy. If they are in love with you, all those things previously mentioned are a patrt of it, but there is also passion, and sexual tension, that makes you want to be very close to that person, and you want them to feel the same. There is a feeling of intimacy. Being in love with a person can make you a little crazy, it is almost a small part of insanity. But it is joyful insanity. There is a sort of euphoria going on, when you are in love, and you love it.

I am not a guy, but when I translate the phrase in my mind it goes a little like this:" I love my puppy, my parents, my car, my job, and you. I am not IN love with my puppy, my parents, my car, my job and you." He would be bummed if the things he "loves" were no longer in his life, but completely devistated if what he was "in love" with was no longer in his life. Make sence?
