True friends, really good friends, are very hard to come by but once you've found one they're a friend for life.

It's difficult to define exactly what makes up the characteristics of a true friend, but here goes:

Someone who would be willing to help you out at any hour of the day or night, and who would drop anything they were doing to do so, no matter how inconvenient.

Someone you haven't seen in a couple of years, but when you meet up it's like it was only yesterday you last saw them.

Someone who would drive half the length of the country to see you if they thought you would benefit from a visit by them.

Of course, you would have to be just as willing to do the same for them if they were to rate you as their true friend!

. . . . and they could be of either sex.

Well, I think any good friend can be of either sex, but most of my close friends are female. I would say a true friend is someone that doesn't judge you, trustworthy, fun to be around, reliable, there when you need a shoulder to cry on and knows how to cheer you up! It takes time for someone to be a true friend, and I have found these qualities in many of my friends who I have known for years. I'm sure you have many friends that you are close to. IF not, ask yourself why? Maybe you are hanging out with the wrong kind of people.
