You are the one to hold the answer to what is beauty. I alone am the only person who decides wheather or not something is appealing, magnificent, elegant, or just plane perfect. I ejoy watching my children sleep that to me is beauty, Its peaceful, Its innocence, A deep breath of emotions without judgement or thought just of knowing. Beauty is Ur choice and your opinion alone It can be physical beauty, emotional or inspirational Its all beautiful to You and You alone since its being seen through your eyes....

However, I disagree that a diamond is not mine, I am a tomboy, and I would totally prefer season tickets to a hockey game then to have an expensive diamond. **hope this helps. (:

WOW it helps to get this off of my chest and sort this out :) i loved this novel! it kinda makes me believe in soulmates.i hope i helped give some meaning to the saying...

But in the next persons eyes I am absolutely ugly. They could say someone is very pretty, and has a lovely body, but what I see is not what their eyes tell them. Some people view me as a very sttractive sexy black female, but others judgement of me is not seen that way. We all find different kinds of people attractive with different kinds of smell, body language.. People have different ways of looking at something, 'Oh she is so goddam beautiful'. But in my eyes she is not beautiful at all.

You might judge someone as absolutely beautiful, the next could judge it as ugly can be.I think some people are very beautiful outwardly, but they do not have the persona. She is a very attractive girl but I don't like her in bed, but the next woman feeds him well. I am a female and love good looking men but not all are beautiful to me. The way a person speaks and their saint can make someone as beautiful as asomeone. I have to admit, I love the sexy men but some think they have it, but I have already got it.

It means that beauty is subjective, simply an opinion expressed by someone. Subjectivity is most prevalent in art and music. For example, while I might think country music is the worst attempt ever at making sounds, others may think it's the best form of music ever invented. Or, someone might stare at the Mona Lisa and gush on and on about the genius of Da Vinci while I look at it and say, "I don't get it - it's just a bad picture of a woman".
Hope this helps.

For instance: two people can look at the exact same thing and some something totally different. two men can look at one girl. one man may see a skinny girl with beautiful eyes. the other man may see a starved ribcage and the fear and pain behind those beautiful eyes. there is no real definition of beauty. it's a universal term. you can make it whatever you want it to be.

to me it means i look at the world and i see a derelict bulding , my baby cousin with downs, my ex with all over body acne and man boobs and see the most beautiful things the world can give , i am the beholder and the beauty is clear to me , others may not agree and simply find these things ugly .
a man might find me beautiful , but i look in the mirror and find myself repulsive, but the beauty he sees is his opinion , therefore within the eye of the beholder

Thanks Wendyg!!! I use that phrase a lot to people because I know so many people with a low self esteem that I am reassuring them all the time, everyone beholds things (i.e beauty) differently so stop worrying about your looks I often say to them!!!! x

This phrase simply means that there is no universal definition of beauty, what I see as beautiful you may see as ugly and vice versa. How I perceive you is how I behold you and if I see you as pretty thats me, whereas someone else may not see it that way. There is no universal agreement on what is beautiful, to some beauty means to have blond hair, blue eyes, to others it may be to have dark hair and brown eyes, each perception is different. xXx

Girlspeak, usually said to someone who's ugly. What it means is that they's an ugly guy somewhere out there who'll "make do".

Hey sweetie
my take on the saying beauty is in the eye of the beholder is that true beauty comes from inside, and that if you yourself portait a beautiful personailty and believe in yourself then other people will also be able to pick up on your confidense and the fact that your are a truely beautiful individual rather than judging beauty purely from the way a person looks
I hope that my advise helps you a little.

It means that there are individual differences in what people find 'attractive' in others. For example, a girl maybe judged as being beautiful by one man (or woman) but not considered so beautiful by another. I may think Angelina Jolie is a beautiful woman, but my husband says he doesn't think she is so great and prefers Nicole Kidman. Thus, beauty really is in the eye of the beholder!
