A male reader, kenny United Kingdom +, writes (5 September 2007):

kenny agony auntThese could mean different things for different people, but for me dating is seeing someone on a casual basis, enjoying each others company and sharing some good times together.

Moving on to commited i would say its when a couple want to take the relationship to the next level, to declare each others commitment to each other, like maybe gettting engaged or something.

Hope this helps x

A reader, anonymous, writes (5 September 2007):

Well I guess those terms can hold different meanings for different people. For me, dating means that two people are seeing each other casually but its not particularly serious. Kind of the pre- boyfriend and girlfriend thing. And in my opinion 'committed' is a term that is quite flexible because different relationships have different levels of commitment that works for them. I think a basic definition of 'committed' in relation to couples is when the two people make a commitment, sort of like a promise but not necessarily spoken, to have a certain amount of loyalty and dedication to the other person. So if they have a committed relationship, they will be exclusive (won't cheat on each other) and in my opinion if you are in a serious relationship it needs to be committed so that you have each other's trust, loyalty and respect. But some people's views vary on this. Hope I cleared it up for you xxx
