A female United States age 41-50, anonymous writes:

I wanted to ask for some advice as I have been in counseling and been offered medications which both don't work. I was diagnosed with OCD when I was young and have sought medication/ therapy for it but lately I feel like I am going crazy- I'm always doubting what people say and sometimes I go in my head "what if i said this instead of thtat" or tend to repeat myself or ask for re assurance. This makes my work very hard because every time I am in meetings I over analyze what I say and I can't speak up or I'm afraid if I said somejjng innapropriate. My thoughts are going to the level of paranoia especially in my job that I have been there as a contractor for a year; I am supporting my sister and mysef financially while she is sick and my stress and paranoia has gone through the roof - does anyone have any tips ? I'm always watching out about people at work(there is a big in crowd that gossips) and I'm always paranoid about getting fired; even though I have thsi reaponsibilit and I am applying to jobs I can't see my to relax- my thought become obsessive and go in circles

A female reader, Honeypie United States +, writes (4 February 2017):

Honeypie agony auntHave you done CBT? Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) or regular therapy? As a fellow OCD sufferer, I can tell you that WHO you get as a therapist is vital and HOW they work with you.

I was not using meds with CBT. ( they didn't give that to teens back in the day)

So if I were you I'd ask your doctor for a referral to a therapist who specializes in OCD (yes they are out there) even if it has to be done over the phone.

A male reader, Garbo United States +, writes (4 February 2017):

Garbo agony auntTell you doctor that the medication does not work. There are many other meds to treat your symptoms and you may have to try several before you find the right one that works for you. For some, counseling does not work but it can't hurt other then the pocket. Also, go on Reddit and look for support subs for your issue. You will find wealth of information and tips, you could ask them questions and replies will be from people who have your issue and are familiar in how to deal with it. While there, also look for supplements sub and ask if there are any natural things for your situation. There may also be support groups in your state but it maybe small or dispersed but still look them up. The psychiatrist often knows about these groups.
