A female United Kingdom age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Right, my teeth are quite awful. They stick out and by the orthondontic, have been told that I have a gummy smile! Well that soon is going to be sorted out... I'm getting braces this year and in about 2 years shall be getting an operation on my jaw. However, on top of these problems the dentist told me that my teeth are covered in plaque - I'm flossing twice daily and brushing my teeth thoroughly 3 times a day! I even attempt scraping it off with my fingernails but nothing comes off and after 4 weeks of keeping this up, my teeth look no different!!!

However the worrying thing is, when I went to see this orthodontic [who seriously recommended me doing this] he said that if there isn't an improvement in the next 6 weeks when I go back, the NHS are going to decline my treatment!!! How can I get this plaque removed cos I seriously need braces [I've been waiting for years to get them] Also, in addition to this I have a white speck on one of my front teeth - I've researched this on the internet and all I get is that, it's caused by a lack of calcium! But I have loads of that in my diet, could it be too much as to why I've got this white speck? It quite annoys me as well because it makes the rest of my teeth look yellow! Please help, my self-esteem is really low and I daren't smile or anything!

I had braces when I was 15, sounds like his orhtodontist doesn't know what he is talking about. If you brush three times a day and floss then i doubt you have plague on your teeth. If you go to your local chemist ask for those pink tablets which you chew and rinse out with water and Any placque that are on your teeth will be highlighted in the pink. this should dissapear when you have brushed your teeth, when all pink is gone it means no placque is on your teeth.

As for the white spot it just means it didnt calcify properly when developing and its nothing to worry about. I suggest you should seek another dentist for a defferent opinion.
