reader, anonymous, writes (8 April 2009): As long as it doesn't get in the way of your social life (ie you end up doing it on public or decide to stay in and masturbate rather than going out with friends) I can't imagine it will make you a loser.
As far as physical consequences, I suppose you could give yourself an infection if your hands/toys are dirty or irritate the skin from too much rubbing, but beyond that I've never heard of or experienced any negative effects. Plus it may end up making sex with a partner more enjoyable eventually, since you obviously know what you like! If you can communicate that to a partner, it works wonders...
