 Did you go on this getaway with him? If so it could mean let's take time to relax after a getaway. However if he was on this getaway solo then he's either met someone else or this isn't what he wants anymore and a break-up is on the horizon. I agree with CaringGuy if you guys have been just "dating" no relationship then it's time to give him the boot for his lack of commitment.

I sense that this guy really does not want total commitment. After three years of dating, there should be more than this. To go away and for him to then say 'lets lay low' suggests that he's a bit of a commitment phobe and is happy to see you when he pleases. Maybe sit down and really think about this relationship. Make sure you're getting all you want from it.
