But over time I developed insecurity issues and as my esteem and confidence plummeted.....I've never lied to her but I think I began leaving things unsaid because I was afraid she'd suddenly see I'm not the man she grew close with months before. It was almost as if I didn't believe in myself anymore and I tried to create someone I thought she'd like better.Does this make sense? For someone I've been closer to than anyone else in my life, why have I developed such an inability (and maybe fear?)to simply talk to her?

This does sound abit stupid to be honest! If you are that close then I'm sure she will accept anything that you say. Don't be afraid of bringing things up which may cause an argument, its healthy for couples to argue occassionally. X
