He could be telling you the truth to be honest it sounds like he is, maybe he is involved with someone else and got carried away with you and just wanted to be honest with you, the harsh reality out there is that even men that have girlfriends will go ave sex with another girl if they think they can get away with it.
Just a tip for the future dont have sex with a guy the first time you meet him make him wait and get to know him first then you will no which guys are genuine and which arent.
