I have had a smear before but it took 3 appointments and 3 different doctors to do it and they only managed to get a small sample so they couldn't test me on everything. I have been refered to a specialist but I'm really scared. Could really do with some advice off others who have experienced the same problem. I don't know what's wrong with me and I don't want it to affect future relationships. Reply to this Question Share |

Hi sorry to hear about your worries. Sounds to me as though you may be tensing up during the procedure which can make it uncomfortable. I can understand how you feel. Just wish the speculum wasn't metal and cold. I'm use to it now, but all I can advise is try your best to relax, focus on something else, somewhere you have to go after your appointment and go with the flow. If you feel pain tell the Dr, he/she should stop, wait for you to say OK, then continue. It shouldnt affect your future relations, this is a medical procedure, not a warm and loving act between two people. all the best. Mx
