Uncomfortable Cervix! Any ideas?

A female United Kingdom age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Hello lovely aunts and uncles.

I have something rather unusual happening regarding my reproductive organs.

The last week, my vagina has been feeling more sensitive than usual when having sex, kind of like it's tighter in a squishier way but not in a muscular way. And my cervix has been a lot more reachable. My partners penis doesnt usually reach it but it has been recently and it quite uncomfortable.

I've already googled this (obviously!) but cant find any answers as it's suggested that this is normal when when women ovulate - however i've been on the pill for 3 months so I don't ovulate!

I have an appointment with my GP in 2 weeks, but i'd like to get some ideas of what the problem might be before I see him.

Any suggestions welcome!

Sounds like your GP is a man so he will be able to check you out and tell you all is ok, but he won't really understand what it feels like - you would be better off talking with the family planning nurse or finding a woman doctor or gyno....

Even though you take the pill your hormone levels do change, both from your body and depending on the type of pill.

The best thing you need to do is find the position that works for you. Your cervix is towards the back and most of your good feelings come from the front so you just have to work a bit on the angles and aiming !

The problem is that, ar least speaking for myself, for a guy it feels good to be able to bump into something deep inside and the cervix is firm enough to to add a nice bit of extra rubbing!!

...and again, sorry. I keep forgetting to acknowledge the being on the pill thing, but I notice mine changes and I'm on the pill. Just like there are times when I'm on the pill and have a higher sex drive during certain times:

No definiitive answers. But I think it's normal.

I actually got the positioning mixed up, it's higher when ovulating, lower and closed when you're not.

The NHS has a symptom checker feature. You may want to try that: http://www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/checksymptoms

During your cycle your cervix tends to be higher or lower. Usually when you're ovulating, your cervix will drop, that way it is easier to get your partner's little spermies up into the uterus. When you are not ovulating, usually your cervix will be up higher.

Thanks Tisha! Those links are an interesting read!

Yes unfortunately that's how the system works here, our GP is always the first port of call, and then we get directed to specialists if it's deemed suitable!

I'm pretty sure I was aroused enough, and i've just asked my partner who said I "felt" very aroused.

Still, hopefully my GP will have something useful to say!

Tisha-1 agony auntSounds like you may not be aroused enough for comfortable intercourse. The cervix moves around during arousal and as I understand it, it should be further away from the entrance to the vagina.

Take more time on arousal and less time with intercourse if you are really tender. There could be a hidden infection, so seeing your gynecologist would seem to me to be a better idea than the GP, but if that is how your medical system works, a real doctor is better than no doctor and google. :D
