Pilates has a whole series of exercises targeting the core muscles. Look for a class or a DVD to get the specific instructions. They are too complicated to list here. I find they work very well.

Get and exercise ball and do sit ups while on it and use it to maintain good posture.
Use it as your chair and you will use all those muscles to keep your balance so that will help.
If you can't do that then sit up and twisting sit ups will also help. (A twisting sit up is where you reach forward with your left hand and touch your right knee and the other way round.) Slow and steady is the best way or you'll just throw your back out.
Good Luck!! xx
