Changing patterns is definitely great advice. For one I know if I have a drink I'm done lol. So no drinks for at least a week. I was smoking about 1/3 a pack a day. It was just disgusting, I felt like crap all the time. I like to go to the gym and go running, so I'm hoping to make a lot of improvements.
Thanks again everyone! I'll keep you posted on how it's going.

First of all, I totally applaud you on quitting smoking! I am a woman who finds it repulsive too. My parents and brothers were all smokers at one time (one of my brothers still is), and their biggest suggestion to help quit is to
1. Get over the 3 day, and then 21 day marks. Get through 3 days, and your system will dramatically clear out, and you'll start really feeling the physical benefits of cutting out the cigs. And as for the 21 day, it takes an average of 21 days to break a habit. If you can get there, you'll be almost all the way home free!
2. Change your patterns. You'll find that different habits you have go hand in hand with a cig, like having a cup of coffee, driving, surfing the internet, etc. Change what you do - maybe switch to soda instead of coffee in the morning until you're in a public no-smoking place. In the car, suck on a lollipop or chew a piece of gum instead, and cut down on your computer time (and when you're on, chew gum or eat a jawbreaker or something in the meantime.
If you're still struggling after 3 days, you may want to visit your doctor and get a prescription to assist you to overcome your cravings.
One friend I know went from 3 packs a day to quitting cold turkey by smoking the e-cig, which is a fantastic way to break away from cigs. You won't reek one bit, you'll satify your cravings for nicotene and not ingest tar and a bunch of other crap that cigs give you. She absolutely swears by it, and I couldn't be more impressed!

Way to set this goal for yourself. This is huge and Im sure you can do it. Quit for the benefit of yourself man and change for you, not for everyone. This way you will feel more motivation hopefully. Nicotine is a psychological stimulant and can therefore be difficut to overcome the addiction. My uncle quit cold turkey (i e just stopped one day completely). He smoked for many years and when he quit he just simply said I need to worry about my health and take better care myself. He logically concluded smoking was bad and because his quitting made sense, it made him confident with the decision and thats enough for him to stay away. Id try to talk to a doctor and get some advice off webmd or even the mayo clinic website. This is no easy task my friend but you have my full support. Best of luck to you.
