bonym agony auntMy friend it sounds as if your fella has Dermatophobia although techniocally this a a phobia of skin lesions (cuts) or skin diseases such as cancer etc etc. I have not heard of anyone who is directly phobic of skin but it may be worthwile trying to establish why he has this fear. Phobias are incredibly strange things, I used to work for a Phobic helpline as a volunteer because I had an odd phobia called Emetophobia which is the phobia of being sick or seeing others being sick and it started from childhood. I am 23 now and I remember since about 5 I used to go beserk when anyone was sick or if I was sick. If you are in the UK, send me a private mail and I can tell you a list of useful organisations which can help your fella with his fear.

Now you also say he doesnt know what type of woman he is attracted to, that doesnt have anything to do with the phobia does it? I mean I dont really know what kind of man I am attracted to either but thathas nothing to do with a fear if you see what I mean? I hope things go ok. Best of luck. xXx

shania agony auntWhen you say your boyfriend cringes...do you mean when he see's people's skin on TV or in real life as well?...There is loads of people out there, that have all sorts of phobias, from being scared of heights to being scared of baked beans...yes as bizarre as that.If your boyfriend's phobia means its interfering with your life and his then i suggest that he makes an appointment to see his doctor who will refer him to a Behaviour consultant who deals with anxieties and phobias. They are trained people who will help your fella with this problem....if he has it very bad then its probably affecting your love life because i would of thought he has the same phobia where he cant look at your skin...let alone touch it...but i dont know how bad the problem is.Good luck.
