I'm a virgin, yet I feel increasingly intense desires for the opposite sex, and it's starting to worry me. I have good self-control, but I still feel very uncomfortable when I go through these moments. I've never had a boyfriend, so that might have something to do with it, or maybe that's just something that would alleviate my urges. Either way, I haven't really been wanting to get into a relationship in high school, and I'd rather wait for someone I truly like than just have a fling, especially at my age.Are these feelings experienced by a good portion of girls, or are they more intense than what is the norm? If they are more intense than is usual, then why might they be?Thanks!

Trust me, you're normal. And yes, the hormones are the culprit. You shouldn't feel uncomfortable about it, you should be proud of being so well controlled! Some (or most) girls let themselves go too far, and experience things far too young. Don't be ashamed of sexuality, it's a normal, fun, and meaningful thing that everybody takes part in. That's not to say that you have to go out and have sex, but having feelings, urges and thoughts is perfectly normal and expected for someone who would rather wait than get caught up in high school.
