The problem is it's a long distance relationship due to college and work we can't be together (it cost £28 for a day ticket to my city and he'll have to get the 9pm train home for work, I don't finish college till 4 and we both don't have that much money) I'm really upset cause this is my first ever valentines day and I wanted it to be special (I know its commercial but I still would really like to have my first valentines). How do I make myself feel better about the situation?

You could talk to him about maybe having an early or a late Valentine's Day celebration, when he is able to come up and spend more time with you, say on a weekend. It doesn't make sense for him to come all that way and spend that money to come over for a few hours. But if you do it a different time, you can have a romantic weekend instead.
Valentine's Day is just a day. It's what you do that matters. So do something romantic and in the spirit of Valentine's Day, just on some other day.
