writes: On this Valentines Day I find myself between relationships, and this day is not exactly a happy day for me. I am a true romantic at heart and this is the first Valentines in a while I’ll be spending alone. I’m sure I’m not the only one that feels this way. It’s actually hurting now, that dry empty feeling…like the day I broke with my ex. MY question is to those of you in the same boat…How do you get through this day?

reader, anonymous, writes (14 February 2008): I am sorry you feel unhappy, on this day. There are many single folks who are spending this day alone. Many of them feeling blue, many of not giving a care--it's like any other day of the week. I find a sense of humor helps get you through it. I have a good friend, who is single again and she made me laugh. I was in her office and I looked at her work calender on the wall. All the days in February are marked off with appts and tasks. But on February 14, she took a red marker ans wrote in big block letters "Evil Day"....lol Everyone that has seen that, admires her for her resilience and good humor at getting through a day, a lot of single folks do dread. How you cope with today will depend on your attitude and strength of mind, to accept it and make a goal that next Valentine's Day, you will share this day with someone else. Why don't you treat yourself to some good self-love for a change. Treat yourself to something special. A nice steak dinner out with some single buddies, maybe a cold beer or two? Sometimes spending a day like this with other single friends, is a great way to cope. Either you all cry into your drinks together or you just say "to heck with it' and share a good laugh or two. Just make the best of it, with a positive attitude..and better times will come. Good Luck.
