It stopped my period, but brought it back for its normal duration 3 days later. it's a week before my period is due, and i'm now having dark brown discharge and slight bleeding. It has been coming and going all day, and gets quite heavy then goes away. There is no chance i'm pregnant, as i'm always protected and always check the condom after intercourse (and after the accident the pill was taken and a period came). Is this simply a side effect of the morning after pill? or could there be something more?thanks in advance for the help

the time i took the pill, it was because of a breakage, which is y iv been really cautious with times after making sure they're deffinately not damaged. Also, as my boyfriend and i wer both virgins (and yes i know this is 100% true because iv known him my whole life), we are both STI free.
I dont have the leaflet anymore, but i'll give the NHS site a check and see what it says :)
thanks again :)

If so, it will list the possible side effects so you can check if it might be that. You say you're sure you're not pregnant and if you took the pill ASAP within 72 hours AND have had a period since I would be amazed if you were so the timing of this bleeding suggests it is a side effect although there is a tiny chance it could be something else. If you don't have the packing and don't want to see your GP then the NHS direct website or another reputable medical site will be able to tell you about side effects of the morning after pill and hopefully that will alleviate your concerns. I'm pretty sure I had similar problems after taking it and it doesn't take much to upset your cycle. I reckon it's just an unpleasant but otherwise harmless side effect but unless you can find out the known side effects and be sure please go and see your GP or another qualified(!) person.
PS. If you didn't use a condom that one time or if it broke and you can't be sure your partner hasn't got an STD then you should go and get some tests done. They only say an HIV is necessary in certain circumstances but anyone could be at risk from one of the less scary but still serious infections. Some infections don't show symptoms in women at first so you can't rely on not having a rash, pain when peeing etc to know something's not right.
