Should my boyfriend have told me by now, that he likes me, we have been dating for a month and a half?

Question - (16 July 2008) 1 Answers - (Newest, 16 July 2008)
A female United States age 41-50, anonymous writes:

Hi all, I have a question. I've been in a relationship for the longest time and I've forgotten how they start.

I'm currently seeing this guy that I like.. we've been seeing each other for about a month and a half and go out once a week, so its been about 5 or 6 dates. At first I was really iffy about him and offstandish, but overtime I realized that I really do like him. What concerns me is I'm not sure if he likes me or not.. he has told me that he likes spending time with me, enjoys my company, finds me attractive, etc. but he has yet to say something along the lines of.. "I like you".

He'll also send me emails on a regular basis/chat with me online, but he can go for two or three days without calling me or texting me, which is strange to me, because I use to talk to my old boyfriend all the time. I kind of want to get into the habit being in contact with him more often, and dont mind taking the initiative, but if he doesnt really like me that much, I dont want to scare him off..

So please help, I dont know what to do. I'd rather not be seeing someone unless they're planning on taking me seriously instead of casual dating. Should I just ask him how he feels about me? Or is a month and a half too early and I should leave it alone and let him take the lead?

Thanks!

A female reader, O Connor Ireland +, writes (16 July 2008):

O Connor agony auntso you want to know if the guy that is dating you for over a month, tells you he finds you attractive, enjoys spending time with you and likes spending time with you...likes you? sorry hunny but you are old enough to know that you dont need to validate a relationship by telling each other every day you like him/her. he is going out with you - wat part of this tells you he mite not like you?

another thing is, you cant compare this relationship to other ones, its unhealthy and no relationship is going to be the same as another one.

and yes, a month is a very short time to start asking questions about how he feels about you.

you need to grow up and stop being so childish about this.
