I understand what you mean! I would think the same thing, but I think what you really need to do is just to take the compliment and say thank you. Doesn't really matter what your friend meant by saying you look so different does it?

 I don't think it was meant as anything bad torwards you, they said you look nice and pretty, so focus your attention on the positive things that were said, and stop looking for negatives.
