 It depends on how comfortable you are alone with him.
If you feel that you would be more comfortable with some friends around, (plus your friends would be able to meet him and see what they think of him!) then make a group date.
But going out, one on one definitely would help you to get know him better and your friends being there would distract you from that.
It really does matter how comfortable you are with this guy that you like. Personally, I would go on a group date first so my friends could tell me what they thought of him and then the next date (if there is one!) it would just be the two of us.
