Its entirely up to you if you go on the pill now or wait. But what you need to remember is that the pill will protect against pregancy if taken correctly, by 99%, but not against STD's or STI's. So do not be reliant on just that method unless you are sure you know your partner and are more than sure they are not carrying anything.

I say it is always best to play it safe and go on the pill as well as use a sponge to prevent against pregnancy and if you choose a sponge that has spermicides in it as well as other STD preventatives...you are set.
Using a female condom usually means bringing plenty of lube as the female condom lines your uterus which makes for a drier "atmosphere".
Still, such questions are best left for a doctor to advise you.
