Hope someone can give me some advice to tide me over until then.Today I noticed that a vein through the head of my penis seems swollen, and at the base of the head of my penis to the side the vein ends in an almost translucent looking lump. Not sure if that is a blister or what it is.What could this be? I am going to see the doctor but would like to have some idea right this very minute. Should I refrain from sex until I see the doctor? Would this be an std/sti or have I just damaged a vein?I'd really appreciate any idea or advice. Thanks so much.

Although it would go at times it kept appearing so I went back to the doctor and was tested for STDs which came back all clear. The doctor sent off a swab swabbed over the lump and it has come back abnormal but I don't know what that means until I see the doctor in a few days time. Any ideas?

That was a week or so ago and it is almost gone half the time now, reappears but then goes. I guess soon it will just stay normal/gone.

I had already made a doctors appointment so will keep that just to be sure. The lump almost went away today but is back again now, but all much the same.

A
reader, anonymous, writes (6 June 2009): I suspect a mild infection, maybe caused by a bacterium. Since the "vein" is down, it is probably healing up. I would hold off on the sex till it is gone, but go ahead and see a doc if it remains long. Just keep the area rinsed. You might try a dab of zinc salve.

A
reader, anonymous, writes (5 June 2009): This is verified as being by the original poster of the questionThanks so much. I am uncircumcised. The vein or whatever it is isn't the prepuce. It is sort of across the head of my penis and has now subsided a bit, but the lump which is on the side of the head of my penis is now larger and looks like it is filled with fluid. I so would have liked to have seen a doctor today!

A
reader, anonymous, writes (5 June 2009): OK, you don't say whether you are circumcised or not, so is this a vein of the prepuce? There are many rather heavy veins throughout the length of the penis, including the prepuce. If it is a "blister looking thing" on the prepuce, it could just be a variocelle, which is not serious and usually goes away on its own. So, don't panic, but go ahead and get it checked out. If you are not experiencing any urinary problems, burning, etc., it is probably not an STD.
