The very fact that you have written in suggests that you have an inkling that it would be best to speak to your friend about this before approaching his ex. If you did ask her out and she said 'no', and then tells your friend it could look bad for you!
If you mention it to him and he is cool about it then that's great! If not, you could find yourself risking your friendship if you still go ahead and ask her out.
At the end of the day, this girl might be a hot but is she likely to be in your life for as long as your mate is?
