A female United Kingdom age 51-59, anonymous writes:

A few weeks ago I asked not my line manager but my head of department for a pay rise, he said that it would be based on my appraisal, and job evaluation. He is due to leave at the end of this week and nothing's been mentioned about it. Should I ask him? What should I do?

A male reader, CaringGuy United Kingdom +, writes (15 November 2009):

Yes, talk to him again. Ask him whether he's had time to consider what you have said. If he says that he's leaving and you need to talk to someone else, make sure that he writes something down or tells someone else that you've asked for a rise. And well done for asking for a rise as well.
