If all he wants to be is friends, then by asking him to be your valentine it might push him away from you. I know if I just wanted to be friends with someone who was in love with me, I would not want to spend a romantic holiday with him/her. If you do ask him, be prepared that he might say no. But if he says yes, try and remember his stance on the relationship. Don't try to set yourself up for getting hurt. But who knows what could happen. You know your relationship with him better than anyone here, so I think you'd be the best one to decide whether or not it'd be a good idea to ask your friend to be your valentine.
