Aunty BimBim agony auntMost people are a little awkward talking to new people, especially when there is the added factor of "liking" involved.

She could try asking questions that cant be answered with a "yes" or "no". Dont ask difficult questions, or questions that deal with the emotional stuff, about movies, or plans for over the holidays, general stuff, until her confidence grows.

A female reader, pinktopaz United States +, writes (28 November 2009):

I think your friend can handle herself. She took a big step asking your cousin to hang out, so she can't be ALL that shy. Things take practice, so if it's her first time hanging out with a guy, of course it's going to be awkward. She's not going to marry the guy, so she'll do the best she can and learn from it. I'm 25 and still get nervous and sometimes don't know what to talk about with a guy I like. She's just going to have to try to remain relaxed and just go with the flow of the conversation and not try too hard. Guys don't necessarily like it when a girl yaps their ear off either.

Out of curiosity, since you're her concerned friend, are you not shy and know how to talk to they guys that you like? If you are able to talk to a guy comfortably maybe you can tell her what you usually do...
