A male , anonymous writes:

Hi

I have abig problem in my life. Im a 32 year old male. Thats not the problem by the way. I met this wonderful women about 16 months ago. She was with someone at the time and I was single, we were from different parts of the country. Shes from Auckland and I'm from Christchurch.

At first it was just a friendship but then it grew as me got to know each other mainly by phone calls. We fell in love but i had already planned to go to England for work before I met her and did so. We kept in touch while I was there and the relationship grew very deep.

After a year there I came home, we decided we wanted to give things a proper go. By this stage she had broken up with her ex. But he continues to pester her and her family want her to stay with him as they like him. They pressure her bigtime. Shes 30 years old but basically they tell her what to do. We had planned to meet up but first she wanted to meet her ex to tell him to back off. He is a fragile guy as he recentlt lost his Dad. On the way to meet her the ex crashes his car into a powerpole and puts himself in hospital with a smashed up leg. She feels sorry for him and our plans are off. Eventually we sort it out and shes buys a plane ticket to come stay with me for a week so we can see how we go and maybe move on together from there. The day before she is pressured into leaving the country for Australia by her mum. She is now in Australia with her mum and dad. I left alone, angry, sad and depressed and feeling helpless. what do I do now? She still says she loves me. Im very confused.

A female reader, Katylouise +, writes (8 October 2006):

I suggest you speak to her mum and dad on the phone seen as they are the source of this problem. You need to be brave and tell them how much you love thier daughter and you want the very best for her and you know you can make her happy. Then speak to your girl and say that you want to be with her so badly and you love her and want nothing more than her to come over to live with you. I reckon a proposal could be just what you need to show her parents how serious you are about her daughter.
