 Ok, this is completely normal.
There are many women who bleed, and find first time sex very painful.
There are probably equally as many, who do not bleed, and have no pain at all.
The hymen (the flap of skin which covers the vagina) can break at any time. Gym class, horse riding, even falling off a chair can break it way before sex is even considered. So it is perfectly normal.
Tell your friend she is one of the lucky ones who has no pain or blood. I am sure there are many women who would have loved that for their first times! Also, if her hubby has a problem with it, then tell him he needs to learn more about the female body and listen less to his male relatives.

reader, anonymous, writes (16 September 2009): I have been the first for at least 4 virgins and none of them bled at all. The bleeding is usually associated with the tearing of the hymen.
Many girls tear their hymens at an earlier age using tampons or playing sports. Using a dildo would also have the same effect.
Plus if the girl is well lubricated, either naturally or with KY Jelly, there is less friction and less potential for skin ruptures and bleeding.
