Also, no deep thrusting and pick a speed that is comfortable for both of you.

I was married to a guy like this and I thought, like you, I would eventually get used to it but I never did and we were married for 10 years it was painful every time and I eventually hated having sex with him. There were so few positions I could tolerate, forget about woman on top that one was the worse for me. And I have learned that bigger is definately not better. I know some women rave about a big dick, but in my case it was not pleasurable at all. Sorry my answer couldn't be more helpful.
