A female Singapore age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Hello everyone I'm just wondering if I should go for prom this year. It's my only prom. As much as I'm excited at the prospect the price is a big turn off. It's 90 bucks. Although it's not as if my family can't afford it I feel that prom shouldn't be so pricey. Well this mindset partly it comes from the fact that my family's rather frugal. Yet at the same time it's kind of like once in a lifetime. It might be trivial but what should I do?

You should get with your class President along with other classmates and contact the news media, radio stations, CNN, Fox news. Make it a story. Tell them we are in the worse recession in the history of the United States and the class of 2012 can't afford $90 for a night out.

Also: Find other options and bring them to your class of 2012. See if you can get a hotel or city to come up with a free solution. Get your sports teams / cheerleaders involved locally, raise some money.

You have to go out and you have to try, just don't take that one option that your school gives.

tennisstar88 agony aunt$90 per person goes to pay for the venue, decorations (that aren't cheap or tacky), DJ, photographer (paid by the hour), and the food. So your $90 is well spent.

You can often find a used prom dress from a resale shop in decent condition, most girls donate their dresses after that one night, or at a vintage shop, and on sale at a formal dress shop. Doing your own hair and makeup saves $. Also, carpooling saves on gas and the unnecessary limo rental. There's ways you can cut costs.

Don't miss out on your prom, it's a fun night!!

natasia agony aunt90 dollars isn't too much for the evening that will be put on for you. Things need to be paid for. That's why you buy a ticket.

If you only ever look at the price tag, you will miss out on so much. Your prom night is pretty much priceless. If you don't do it, you'll never get a second chance. So just go and enjoy it.

If you have the opportunity, do it.
