Problems with prom

Question - (10 April 2010) 2 Answers - (Newest, 11 April 2010)
A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

As many people may know, prom season is now in full swing, with everyone picking out dresses, finding dates, buying tickets and everything. For me, it's more complicated. I'm a senior, seventeen, and I went to the prom last year with my friend "Sierra." It was just the two of us girls, and it was fun. We rode there together in Sierra's parent's car and everything.

This year, it's another story. Sierra is going to the prom with her friend, a guy named "Grant" who goes to another school. I've met him a few times and he's nice, but I have to admit that I am a little bit jealous that she found a date. Anyway, Sierra is also hosting an exchange student "Naree." Naree has yet to find a date, but even if she doesn't, there won't be any room in her car for me to ride along with. As if that wasn't disconcerting enough, there was the possibility of riding with "Liva" another friend of mine. She's going with "Jansen", but there would be other girls in the group. Only I just found out today that the limo they rented for the prom is already full.

You could say I'm stuck. I can't go with Liva and the others because there isn't enough room. Neither is there room for me in Sierra's car, unless she gets her uncle to drive his big Chevy, which is older and fits more people. I know it's not a big deal getting a ride there, but I really don't want to drive or ride there alone. It makes me feel excluded, and I detest exclusion. It's something I've had to deal with my entire life.

So I was thinking today that I might ask a guy to go with me, but I'm not sure. I've known "Tyler" for more than a decade, but he might be going with "June." Should I ask him to the prom, or do you think that's too much of a risk? Or should I try to wing it and beg Sierra to take her uncle's car so I could at least have a ride there? Please help me!
