We just bought a new house in a great neighborhood after a week the house right across from us was rented out. Now we regret buying our house cause the their kids put a baseball goal on the road almost everyday and now there's ALOT of kids running around the road eating junk food and playing baseball ....now our front yard got trash everywhere and it's hard for us to get out from our house....we're afraid we are going to run over someone, they will play baskball until it's dark and their parents is not even there to watch them or at least tell them to pick up their mess. This is the first time we are dealing with this and it's been 7 months now and we are tired of this, is there any advise? Should I call the cops?

Honeypie agony auntHave you walked over and talked to the parents? Maybe go say hi to the kids? I mean playing basketball is CERTAINLY not the worst things kids could be doing outside.

Ask them to not litter in your front yard and I would suggest you tell them that you all worry about running someone over when backing out, so could they move to the side when you honk and back out?

I don't think it's a CRIME to play basketball in the street. And I think it's kind of WASTING the Police's time to have them come out and tell some KIDS to not litter.. don't you?

When we lived on post (military base) this was a common sight, kids playing in the streets (cul-de-sacs mostly) but they were all TAUGHT to MOVE when they saw a car and to USE the trashcans for popsicle and junkfood wrappers. OBVIOUSLY no one have taught these kids this (or they are ignoring it) so being friendly and saying hi, puts a face on their new neighbors, which could mean they will remember to pick up after themselves. You can also put a trashcan down near the road and ask them to toss it in there because you don't really want the trash in the yard.

YOU will achieve SO much more by being friendly, neighborly and nice then you will by calling the cops.

I think when the parents are home you should speak to them about the litter. As for the kids playing games you make no mention of them being unruly rude or menacing! I would suggest you embrace it kids having fun is not a problem and its a common occurance arpund nice neibourghoods in america for kids to be out having fun! I wpuls say if you know theyre there drive with caution flr the 20m or so of road they probably take up. There is no Law to stop the children playing if they are not causing stress to you! you probably live in a suburb this should be expected! I hope if you have children they would feel safe enough to let them go out to play! We wonder why kids are all gettin into trouble with police or stuck inside playing video games its because of people like you who criminslise them for doing what kids do!!!
