My bf and I are totally in love. We get on amazingly and are always laughing and having fun. Problem is we want different things in our futures. And it makes us both sad to think about it cos we're worried it could split us up. What do I do?

A female reader, chigirl Norway +, writes (8 February 2011):

chigirl agony auntHow different are these things? If it's between wanting a cat or a dog, or 4 or 5 children, then the differences are not as much differences as different version of the same interest. Like you both wanting eggs, but one wanting it cooked for 6 minutes and the other 8. It's not much of a difference in reality, and can be easily worked out.

However if the difference is you not wanting children at all, while he does, or you wanting to live abroad, while he wants to stay in his home town... then you've got something serious to worry about.

But before I can answer you properly I'd need to know what differences it is that disturb you.
