writes: I recently got back with my ex of three years ago. We have had sex without a condom several times. I got my first depo-provera shot on Feb. 15 th 2010, and had no problem what so ever with bleeding. Him and I got back together on April 16th of this year, we have had sex every night without a condom since then. About a week ago, I started spotting (very lightly) every night at 9pm, today (May 1st) I have blead off and on all day, but it is dark like it is old blood. I have heard of people getting pregnant on depo, but does anyone think I should get a pregnancy test? Would the shot effect the results of the test? Im almost to the end of my 3 months, of my first shot. Advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Mom10123 is verified as being by the original poster of the questionNo, she didn't. I had to get on that form bc I have endometriosis and she said that would be the best for my pain. I just know some women that have become pregnant while on Depo, and I am worried that I might be. Hopefully not!

If you see a doctor then they may be able to prescribe some counter-acting hormonal drugs if the bleeding is particularly bad. Also your doctor should be told so that in three months time you can re-evaluate your contraceptive choices.
DP is a poor choice for a healthy near-teen woman because of its high side effects compared with other forms of contraception. These days DP is mainly used in the first world by people with illnesses or prescriptions which contra-indicate all other contraceptive choices; by breastfeeding mothers; and by travellers who expect to lack access to clean water.
Certainly someone 18-21 is at the very edge of acceptability for using DP, since the two-year temporary loss of bone density typical of DP is best not done during the years when bone density is being established for later life.
Since you are in the first world, with clean and sophisticated medical centres, I'm a bit surprised you didn't opt for an progestin implant, since these can be removed if side effects turn out to be severe.
I am very much hopeful that your doctor described all of the above prior to the injection.
