To make a physical difference, you have to work out consistantly at least 3-4 times a week. I have been working out for years, and I have read a lot of books and articles on the subject.
Weight-Training is great. You don't have to use HEAVY weights to make a difference, after all, you don't want to look manly. ha ha
I do 120 regular sit-ups a day, excercize with 10 lb weights, and powerwalk every other day. I am 53 years old, but I look years younger.
Excersize should be a "Way of Life", and the result is a "Hot-Bod"
My ex husband is in his 60's, and he works out on a regular basis too.
I lost 45 pounds 2 years ago.
A good diet is: No Potatoes, No Pasta, No corn or anything made with corn (no corn starch)(corn is used to fatten farm animals), No white Rice, Nothing made with white flour... including bread, no sugar ( or anything that contains more than 3 grams of sugar). NO fruit juices! Only 1 cup of anything with caffein per day. (because caffein supposibly makes you hungry)
Eat Fish, meats, veggies, fruits, nuts, 1 slice of Whole Wheat Stone ground bread a day, Whole wheat Truiscut Crackers are good.
In other words, follow a diet that people who have diabetes use. Research a diabetes diet, and you will see that it is a good one. Good Luck!
It worked for me!

The truth is that you can lose weight and eat whatever you want, of course you might not get all the nutritn if you eat what you want without overloading on calories, fat and carbs. The best option is stick to a diet that consists of three meals a day and two snacks one in between each meal. Calculate what you need to eat. Stick to each meal being a serving of meat, vegetable, and grain. Then have your snacks consist a serving of fruit. Or you could switch it around and have fruit instead of vegetables during a meal it really doesn't matter just go by the food pyrimid. Learn that a serving of food is not realy that big, America has just asumed that a serving of meat is the whole steak where it really is jut half of the steak. After you have assembled your food schedule you have to decide what to eat and this is where you need to calculate foods in your day to work with the nutrition you need in one day. Get a Diet book that has a daily planner of food combinations that you can make to ensure that you get all of your nutrition without overloading on calories, fats, and carbs. Next you need to get an exersizing program in action. You don't need a bow-flex or spend money at a gym. All you need to do is get some stretching, cardio expecialy cardio and some simple weight lifting in and do that for an hour every day. You wont see results right away but little by little you will notice yourself getting in shape and feeling good. If you feel exhausted like your out of energy a lot during the day while doing your diet increase your calorie intake by a couple hundred. But your best option is getting a book on dieting with good planners. Best of wishes

Don't cut out any food groups and don't look at it as a diet. Just eat healthy food that you like. I like weight watchers so you can try those. Also, try to eat more fruits and vegetables. I wouldn't cut out snacks, it can actually help you lose weight to eat more often, but eat less. Maybe have an apple or a yogurt for a snack. Celery is great because you actually burn the same amount of calories chewing as you are swallowing. If you cheat and eat something unhealthy just a very small serving. Also, drink water and try not to drink anything carbonated. Exercising will also help you lose weight. Try to do something that you enjoy. It is easier to stay motivated if you get your friends to exercise with you. Maybe you can start going to the gym with a friend, or get a group together to play volleyball or something. You can also sign up to take some lessons or take a class at the gym. Also, it might help to not weight yourself because that just makes it frustrating, at least it does for me. You can't choose what areas you lose the weight, but you can try doing crunches to tone your stomach. Exercising will most likely make you hungrier since you are burning calories, but don't eat more. Just drink a lot of water and have a health snack to give you energy. Have fun with it and find a type of exercise you enjoy.Good Luck!
