It hurts so much that the Dr. can never get an adequate sample and I always had to go in to do another one......For my last pap the Dr. perscribed me meds (I can't remember what...either for stress or sleep). I just popped a couple of those and I was so relaxed that I didn't feel a thing. I just had to make sure that I had a driver to take me home.

Not sexually active, but you have had sex before right?
"There is little or no benefit to screening women who have not had sexual contact. HPV can be transmitted in sex between women, so women who have only had sex with other women should be screened, although they are at somewhat lower risk for cervical cancer"
Perhaps explain to your doctor that you are not sexually active and that he is more gentle than usual? Try and lube up before the test?
I think you need to relax more. Perhaps have a drink or three before the test so your senses are dulled and you are happier about everything. I broke my nose once when I was drunk and didn't feel a thing. Not to advocate alcohol but it does have it's benefits. Or perhaps some pain killers would do the trick as well. Or maybe all you need is a big cup of tea, a good magazine and chocolates before you head off to the doctors, to help you relax.
In either case I suggest you pamper yourself after the doctors appointment, so that you will have something to look forward to.

I think between now and then you should find a few relaxation techniques that you can use during your exam. Being relaxed during the exam will make it so much more comfortable.
I know this is easier said than done... thinking about it likely is making you more anxious, making it even hard to relax! I try do use deep breathing techniques and try to focus on something else. Try taking deep breathes while counting, count to four or five in, four or five out. Or think of a song you can recite in your head while you breathe deeply. I'm sure others will agree that relaxing your muscles as much as possible will make the exam less painful.
Good luck!
