A female reader, DrPsych United Kingdom +, writes (29 July 2006):

DrPsych agony auntBleeding from the hymen is usually short-term (spotting..). It could be that you have a hormonal imbalance that is causing the bleeding or a problem with the cervix or uterus. It could also be coming from your anus so check. Irregular bleeding should always be checked out by a qualified doctor - blood tests will exclude any hormone problems. You should go back to your doctor or the hospital and be fully investigated - try not to worry though as there are lots of non-serious reasons for the bleeding. A gynaecologist can give you an ultrasound to check your insides. Hope you feel better soon!
