Our friends don't have much time to socialise recently, what do you think?

Question - (29 January 2010) 1 Answers - (Newest, 29 January 2010)
A male United States age 51-59, anonymous writes:

My wife and I have been friends with this other couple for maybe 5 years. In the last year we have had them over for dinner/parties maybe 4 times; they have had us over zero times but did invite us to go out to dinner with them once.

My wife says they are just very busy, but I think real friends will find time to have you over at least once in a year. BTW we live 5 minutes apart. I guess the problem is that I do still like them. I'm tempted to drive by their house on a Saturday night to see if they're having a party w/o inviting us, but I guess that could accomplish nothing good. So what do we do?

Your wife might just be right. Maybe they are busy. They did invite you out at least once, and they did come to dinner with you, so this isn't some avoidance thing. Maybe they're suffering because of the recession and don't want anyone to know. Maybe their marriage is in a bit of trouble. There are a lot of reasons.
