when you talk always start the conversation with Open questions and not with Closed questions. A closed question takes you no where. (yes or no answer)
An open question keeps it alive.
Example: Want to go to the Zoo?
Answer: yes or no
Example: Did you ever go to the Zoo
Answer: yes or no
Above is a closed question.
Versus
Example:
WHAT is your earliest memory of visiting the Zoo= they get to tell you more.
but never interrupt any answer mid sentence
However, when there is a long pause you can encourage the conversation with more open questions
Example: HOW did you feel about that?
Example: WHY did you decide to do that?
Example: WHAT made you try that strategy
Hope the above helps to get the conversation flowing
