Obviously I would avoid anyone who is still young enough to be considered a "child" rather than a teenager (say 14 or younger) and anyone who is a LOT older than you.
But if you restrict your dating activities to hanging out together , going to the cinema or out for lunch, getting to know each other one to one - generally having fun - rather than getting into anything that's too emotionally intense, or too physical, then you should be fine, whatever age you choose to date. Save the intense stuff for your twenties - they'll be mor ethan enough of it then!

It varies according to YOUR actual age. Most parents don't let kids start dating UNTIL they are 16... so you're pretty much stuck with a pool from 16-17/18.I would advise against dating anyone YOUNGER than 14 or OLDER than 18.Once you turn 18, you are LEGALLY considered an adult and any physical (sexual) relations with someone UNDER 18 is considered statutory rape (whether you're male OR female). As you get older it's generally acceptable to date someone +/- 10 years of age but there are exceptions (e.g. the whole Cougar [older woman, younger guy]/Sugar Daddy [older guy, younger woman] thing). At your age... I would say you can date someone between 14-18.You should ask your parents as well. The SHOULD be able to express to you how they feel about it... without getting irrational.
