A female United Kingdom age 41-50, anonymous writes:

Afternoon aunts and uncles.

I recently found an old friend on facebook...we used to work together and got on really well. He now is living the dream and is in a band who are becoming successful.

Im so happy for him but heres the problem...i was the 1 who encouraged him to start auditioning for bands-his family thought it was a waste of time.I swapped shifts with him so he could go auditions and lent him money (he always paid me back). Now i sent him a message on facebook basically congratulating him and asking him how he was and he just replied "Alright mate"-i then sent him another message and never got a response-even though he ws happily chatting to loads of other people on facebook.

Im annoyed that he couldnt make the effort to chat a bit after all i did for him.

We were just friends nothing more-he has a girlfiend and im engaged so its not as if i was interested in him that way-i was genuinally wanting to re kindle our friendship.

Why is he ignoring me and am i over reacting for being upset?

A male reader, saltwater United Kingdom +, writes (15 March 2009):

saltwater agony auntThere is a saying that goes "the more you do for someone, the less they appreciate you".

It could be because of that, or maybe he feels slightly awkward that the person who did so much has got back in touch and he feels a little embarrassed...

I think you should send a couple more little inquisitive messages, but if he doesn't reply, well, don't dwell on it too much.

After all, virtually everybody has had a person in their life who has done many things for them, yet not shown them any appreciation for it. That just seems to be the way it goes sometimes.

Good luck
