A female Malaysia age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Dear agony aunt,

This is another condom related question. I read that oil based lubricants such as baby oil and body lotion should not be used. However, what if at that time it totally slipped our minds that our hands had some body lotion (due to normal daily body moisturization) and have contact with condom as we put the condom on, or say touched the condom as we passed it to our partner? Will it have any adverse effect?

DenimandLace44 agony auntIt shouldn't....when used as a lube, the petroleum breaks down latex, but you are using enough to coat the condom. I do not think that a minute amount would be enough, or as aunt honesty said, dried.

A male reader, C. Grant Canada +, writes (11 November 2010):

C. Grant agony auntThe problem with oils is that they will break down the latex, so that the condom is more likely to leak. Generally if you're using something as lube you'll use relatively a lot of it, so the latex can be undermined in the time it takes to have intercourse. A bit leftover on your hand from another use, while not ideal, is probably not going to be an issue.
