Not going to college: smart or dumb?

Question - (7 July 2011) 2 Answers - (Newest, 8 July 2011)
A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Dear Cupid..this has nothing to do with sex, or love, or relationships. This is a question about college. Im gonna be a senior in a few weeks and my goal in life is to become an ultrasound technician. I dont want to go to college because i see it as a waste of time. I just want to go to C----- College [mod note: presumably a technical school, removed for privacy] and study what i want to become. Is that smart or dumb? Thank you.

A male reader, anonymous, writes (8 July 2011):

Its always smart to have a backup plan in case something goes wrong. And in the United States where high school is mandatory even the most degrading jobs require some college. your high school should have councilors to help you with this.

A male reader, anonymous, writes (8 July 2011):

It depends, what is the best option for you doing what you wish to do and what are the chances of landing a job area with qualifications from your intended school of study as opposed to a University?

These are all things you need to consider and things you need to talk to professionals in the area you are hoping to enter into as a career about.
