Need some advice about interview/job situation

Question - (11 January 2009) 1 Answers - (Newest, 11 January 2009)
A female United Kingdom age 41-50, anonymous writes:

I am currently looking for an agency to do a job for me. I applied to a few and am about to go to an interview with an agent tommorrow (which I have a good feeling will be successful!)

However, I heard from one of the best / biggest agencies on Friday (I really didnt think I would hear from them in all honesty!) And I am to call them to schedule an interview this week!

So it is a major predicament now - ideally, I would prefer to use the bigger agent but I do not know if they will accept my project. So I do not know what to say to the other agent now when I go to my interview tommorrow, it is possible they may accept the project on the spot OR they may say then need to get back to me on whether they feel they can do it or not etc. BUT of course I do not know what will happen with the other agent until I arrange an interview with them, they may or may not accept; but they are my preferred and best option.

So in either case scenario - I do not know what to say to the other agent. Agents are notorious for having big egos, and I simply can not be honest and let them know I am also sourcing their other competitors. Doing so could affect our future relationships if I do end up having to accept their offer OR use them again in the future.

So I do not know how to handle this situation or what excuse to use. I can not use the excuse that I need to run it by my seniors or other depts etc, because essentially, I am the boss and it IS my decision and mine and mine alone so that will not work. But I can not risk offending them and risk future working relationships (not to mention come across extremely unprofessional!) Big dilemna and not sure how to make an excuse good enough to get me out of it yet keep my options open without offending - any ideas?

Thanks

A female reader, anonymous, writes (11 January 2009):

Grab the best opportunity that suits you and the future you want. Egos will not care less about you in the end only self. Make no apologies for letting either know your worth, you will probably gain respect rather than using EXCUSES which are often lame. Be totally honest to all concerned, above all you! and why should you not have choice? show strength by been truthful..only lies and excuses show weakness and jeopardize future projects...start as you mean to go on. Its your project if they want it, then make them fight for it...show that the project has value to you! then they too will see its VALUE.

Or wait for third time lucky.......

just my opinion. I wish you luck what ever you decide to do.
