There is no one for me to really talk to, I stand there on my own and of course I can not make too much conversation with the customers! Most times I literally just stand there looking at the wall for about 6hrs!! I am not allowed to have any books / magazines etc as it looks unprofessional. I do have a clipboard with guest's names etc but that is all I have with me. I do have my cell phone but of course I can not call people or be seen to be using my phone too much, my phone is not blackberry so I can not really use it to surf and there arent any great games on there to keep me occupied. Does ANYONE have any USEFUL advice for me on how I can spend the time? Sometimes it gets so depressing just standing there, looking at a wall, sometimes I feel invisible because people barely acknowledge me. And it of course bores me to tears that I am just standing, looking at a wall for 6hrs! And because I am so bored with nothing to do to keep my mind of it all, my back slowly starts aching, my feet, my legs....I can not / do not want to leave this job as the pay is VERY good and as a student there is no where else I could get paid this much for doing so few hours and be able to afford my living expenses etc.So anyone have any tips, ideas or suggestions about how to pass my night without dying from the agony of killer boredom? Dagger 4 had a great idea so make sure you buy all the sunday papers and then have a supply of sudoku or something to slip into your clipboard. Either that or bring blank paper and then write a novel for extra cash.
Other than that I think you will find the reason that the pay is so high is because it's hard. If it was easy then they wouldn't have to pay so well.
You will find it easier staying on your feet after a while. I found it SO hard when I started bar work but it got easier within a week.
Either find a way to cope or find a less well paying job with seating.
Good Luck!! xx

Are there no other jobs? Is it possible to find a job that is interesting to you? Nothing worse than having to spend hours a day being bored out of your mind.

There are wireless headsets available.Keep the music player inside your pocket.Have a hair cut so that it covers your ears. You can listen to music. That should definitely alleviate the boredom.

It won't look unprofessional and when people see you using it to look up guest's names they will just think that you are writing something that has to do with who's expected to come. Hope that helps
