I hate seeing people drink their lives away, ruin their bodies with drugs, smoke as much as possible until/through lung cancer, wanting to have sex or wear skimpy clothes at young ages, the constant attention seeking and playing mind games with people, the insanity that the media brings as to what beauty is or should be. I hate it all. So many people don't like it but do it or accept it, but if slavery had just continued to be accepted, it would still be affecting us today. If so many people don't like it, why is it still happening?!? I'm not saying people shouldn't be able to make mistakes -- we are human; it's necessary sometimes -- but to keep making the same old mistakes takes away the accident and makes the majority of it on purpose or just reckless. Nearly everything that damages society gets glamourised in some way -- even killing people because to a psychotic person there are aids everywhere.I suppose this is mostly just a rant but if it was a question I guess it would be: does anyone here agree or not?

Actually these people who get glamorised need to be sold- so the media markets them in such a way so that people will buy it.for example - if you r thin - media will say thin is beautifulif you r curvy - media will say its curves that are hot..similarly you have kurt cobain - who snorts coke - what do you market him as - the genius cannonball who is aggressive and rebelliousBut I wouldn't be too judgmental OP.... everyone is flawed. everyone makes mistakes. If you don't.. you cannot become yourself - you cannot decide what is good for you what is bad for you . these people who are being portrayed as glamour and the best - yes may not be the best role models - but are just humans who were just living their life..If everyone does the same thing we will all be like clones- so its good to make mistakes too... but at the end of the day - its all about marketing - you glamorize it to sell it..the adults really don't follow on these things - because we already know the "truth" - its young kids like you who are the most impressionable and sadly the ones- who are easy victims.. they end up ruining their lives - the T.V is an Idiot box...

But never forget there ARE good people out there too, you just don't hear about them in the media, they don't sell papers.
These people on a daily basis, make others lives better in some way, small or large. They do it for others, not themselves.
Just go down the route you want to, you know whats right for you already.

at the highest level it gets glamorized by those who make money out of the things they are selling.
So they try to 'position' it in society as glamorous - hence films in the early days wanting to show film stars smoking.
So the most wealthy pop/music/film stars are often supplied with complimentary products (drugs) so that their followers will emulate them. They in turn reference it in their songs or in films.
Hence big name events are sponsored by
Alcohol, cigarette people.
Hence the porn industry has many free sites to lure people into the paid sites.
Follow the money and you will see where the big players are in the business of selling all these things to a gullible public.

You are very welcome to have a rant. Ask my family - I do that all the time:)
First off there are too many people who act like lemmings and just do something they have to do to be accepted. This is not true.
I have chosen to never drink alcohol and never had (got sick of alcoholic parents embarassing me)
I have chosen to not smoke cigarettes
(got sick of so many extended family members dying from lung cancer when I was a/child)
I have chosen to never use illicit drugs because I think it is a complete con. No 'benefirs' alleged can ever makeup for the long term damage.
And I dress the way I do because I choose not to walk around looking as if I am a prostitute. No girl should ever feel the need to dress like that.
But then I also object to little children being dressed like a mini- adult.
But do my views stop me enjoying life? Absolutely not. I have a great life. I mix happily with people who do drink alcohol and do smoke.
And none of my friends ever hear a comment from me. I have NO opinion about what others do or not do. I make NO judgement on how others choose to live their lives.
(though i used to get plenty of Judgement for my decision to NOT want those things for me - I am so over their comments - they have all given up trying to get me to try , now, which is good)
People do not though need to do those things to have a 'good time'.
And if anyone ever offers you drugs then they are NOT your friend, whoever they say the are.
And by not doing those things you have more money and better lomg term health to enjoy life to the full. WITHOUT those things in your life.
Good luck in your aim to NOT be a Lemming
It can be done. Long term your skin will be better, your lungs, liver, heart will be better.
You will have more money left over to spend on E-bay:

OP the number of slaves in the world today is higher than it has ever been in any point in history. An estimated 12-27 million people are slaves. So it very much does still exist the number of people living in destitution then is 1.5 billion. 1/6 of the entire world lives in shanty towns or on the streets. In Britain fro example there are an estimated 10 -30,000 slaves living there, most are sex slaves but a lot of them are immigrant children trafficked to the UK to perform domestic duties, there are also plenty of cases of British born children being forced into a life of abuse and slavery by their parents.
"If so many people don't like it, why is it still happening?"
Because people do like it OP. People love democracy, capitalism and consumerism. I mean look at the reaction to Steve Job's death. He was a capitalist who made billions just selling a product that no one actually needed nor was in any way new, he used sweatshops to build his product for sale, he never gave any of his money to charity and by all accounts from his employees he was actually an asshole and very hard to deal with, yet people say he changed the world for the better because his company sold a phone/mp3 player that was popular. People don't care that he was actually a capitalist, greedy dick, they just look at their iphones or ipods and think this guy is the best thing ever because this product is brilliant. People are idiotic fickle greed merchants OP. They want to wear fake tan, they want to have fake breasts, they want to have hair implants, they want to have the newest gadgets and luxuries and they don't care who suffers to get it nor what effect their blind greed has on the world.
"keep making the same old mistakes takes away the accident and makes the majority of it on purpose or just reckless."
That's human nature OP. Human's are inherently sheep that follow. We always follow the same patterns, we have always been this way. The Jews were nearly wiped out during the holocaust they were hoarded into camps and starved, for land the Nazi's wanted to populate, in a policy known as Lebensraum, but now the Jewish nation Israel is doing the exact same thing to the Palestinians, locking them up in massive walled ghettos and starving them. What lesson was learned form the Holocaust? Nothing at all, the victim has now become the oppressor and that's the way it always goes throughout history.
In fact I think you should study history, (not the school version) it sounds like something that would be interesting to you.
OP you have to stop worrying about society and other people and just live outside of the system. That's what I do. Just by being and enlightened person who doesn't follow this pattern you make the world a better place. Raise your kids to live well and love well, and just a live a good life of respect for yourself and letting other fuck off be the idiots that they are. The world is a messed up place filled with idiots but we're not all idiots. So just surround yourself with good friends, good family, enjoy your life and take time to sit back and have a good look at the beauty of the world because believe it or not there is just as much profound beauty in the world as there is ugliness. In other words don't let this stuff bother you. If you hate all this kind of thing and the poison that breeds in society then you already care too much about stuff that doesn't really matter to you. If people want to sexualize their kids or take drugs then so what? Just don't do it yourself if you don't like it and who cares about anyone else? they certainly don't care about you.
